Developed the Atlas Orthogonal technique and instrument — a light-force, instrument-guided method of realigning the atlas vertebra that became a board-certified upper-cervical specialty.
Roy Warren Sweat (1927–2022), a Georgia chiropractor and Navy veteran, studied upper-cervical work under John F. Grostic before devoting his career to precise atlas correction. In 1970 he developed and patented the Atlas Orthogonal percussion instrument with physicists and engineers, and around 1980 established the Atlas Orthogonality program.
