Paediatric Fundamentals

This dynamic 3-day intensive course has been designed for chiropractors, osteopaths and physiotherapists (or a final year student in either of these professions) who are ready to expand their clinical knowledge, skills and confidence in paediatric practice. You will develop the knowledge, clinical reasoning, and hands-on skills needed to assess and manage infants, children, and adolescents safely and effectively. Throughout the course, we will explore essential safety considerations, including recognising red flags across the paediatric age range, identifying important diagnoses, and confidently adapting manual therapy and rehabilitation approaches for younger patients. Foundational theory will be delivered electronically ahead of time, allowing the in-person sessions to focus on what matters most: practical skill development, hands-on learning, clinical workshopping, and real-world problem solving. A key highlight of the course is access to the Force Sensing Technology Table (FSTT), enabling you to objectively refine and calibrate your treatment forces for paediatric patients—building precision, confidence, and safety in your clinical care.
Led by Amanda Stevens and Amy Miller, who bring extensive experience in paediatric clinical practice, research, and education, this course offers a supportive and engaging learning environment grounded in evidence-informed practice. By the end of the three days, you will leave with practical, immediately applicable skills and the confidence to assess and manage a wide range of paediatric musculoskeletal presentations, enhancing both your clinical capability and the care you provide to younger patients.
Seminar aims

Assessment, diagnosis, and management of MSK conditions in the infant, toddler, school-aged child, and adolescent.
Assessment and diagnosis to include common conditions, serious conditions, red flags, vital signs; management to include basics of interventions, communication including ROF, and when to refer for paediatric age groups.
Management to include adaptations to manual therapy and rehabilitation across the paediatric age ranges.

Speakers
Amy Miller
Dr Amy Miller is a chiropractor, researcher, and educator who has devoted her career to improving paediatric MSK health. With a clinical focus on pregnancy and paediatrics, Amy loves working with families through some of the most meaningful transitions of life: pregnancy, the post‑natal period, and early childhood. Her deep interest in interprofessional care for infant feeding shaped her PhD, and continues to inspire her clinical and academic work.
As a Lecturer at HSU, Amy led teaching in paediatrics, pregnancy, and evidence‑informed clinical decision‑making, and is known for her supportive, practical, and learner‑centred approach. Her research currently focuses on spinal pain and MSK problems in young people, working with the international COURSE study team to develop understanding of this global issue.
Her contributions to the profession have been recognised with BCA Chiropractor of the Year (2018), selection into the Chiropractic Academy of Research Leadership (CARL) programme (2020), and Fellowship of the European Academy of Chiropractic. She co‑chairs the Academy’s special interest group for paediatrics.
Amanda Stevens
Dr Amanda Stevens is a chiropractor focused exclusively on pediatric and perinatal care, with the majority of her patients being infants under one year. She has honed her obsession with infant gross and oral motor development over the last dozen (plus) years through countless hours of education and unique clinical experiences, complementing her MSK care with a Masters of Science in Applied Clinical Nutrition. . Dr Amanda actively contributes to a variety of pediatric research initiatives, including practice-based safety data collection, international adolescent pain projects, and clinical guideline position statements. She teaches for Logan University’s Masters of Science in Chiropractic Pediatrics. Dr Amanda is dedicated to elevating the standard of neuromusculoskeletal care for pediatric patients.  She was recognized for these efforts by being named the ACA’s Pediatric Chiropractor of the Year in 2025.
